Win2k dynamic disks recoverability issues
We have started to migrate a bunch of Windows servers (Win2k server)
to our san. The storage is primarily EMC Symm storage. Due to the hypervolume size, we have not been able to create individual luns (Symm meta volumes) as big as the Windows support team would like. The Windows support team wants a lun to map directly to a Windows drive letter, of the exact size they want. They do NOT want to use Dynamic Disk volume manager to create logical drives (logical volumes?) that span luns. Their say there are recoverability issues with Dynamic Disk and it should not be used. Our storage team has lots of Unix experience, but no Windows sever experience, so we have no real opinion on the issues with Dynamic Disks. My understanding is that Dynamic Disk is based on Veritas Volume Manager, which is very robust in our Unix experience. q) What are the issues with using Win2k Dynamic Disks to pool luns? Are there recoverability issues that make it not really usable? Thanks Rick |
