Default Question about various low end NAS's from HP and Dell

I am looking into getting more storage for one of my clients networks.
I am looking into 2 NAS units right now but am open up to
suggestions.

The Dell Powervault 745N and the HP Storag works 1200s

Both of these run WSS2003 and have IDE drives in them. The thing that
concerns me is performance w/ the IDE drives. Have any of you used
these? Are they basically just cheap toys? Or are they serious and
can handle about 125+ users accessing various small files without
bogging down?

One of the other things that I would like to do w/ these is to also
run backups from the servers to shares on it. I know that is possible
but once the backup is on the HD w/ backup exec is it possible to then
transfer that to a tape drive?

I am basically just looking for opinions on these. It would be
fantastic to hear from someone who actually has one of the units. I
would go w/ something more exspensive but these guys do not have much
money to spend.

Thank you.

Well, anybody is willing to sell product, but the important thing is to
really define what the business drivers and goals are so that you can more
successfully apply the correct technology that will support their business.

Lots of things are possible, but if the technology doesn't apply to their
real nees or expectations, then it's the wrong thing to buy.

On the backup question, you'll have to be more specific. Do you mean the
backup product integrated with Windows, or a version directly from VERITAS?
Which version? Which options?

I am talking veritas backup exec 9.1. I want to run backups to a HD.
I have done this before but I am wondering if I can then transfer
those backups to a tape, and if I do so to the tape will it just
backup the large backup file? or will it actually put the files
seperatly onto the tape as if the backup was originally put there to
begin with.
