Default OT mionitor connections

Totally OT but can i connect two Pc's to the same monitor one via dvi and
one via d-sub and use the same monitor for both pc's but obviously only
have one PC switched on at a time

yes, with the dell ultrasharps, they basically are 4 port video
switches. you can easily hit the button on the front of the lcd and
you will toggle thru all the connected ports. very nicely done.
a corresponding light will tell you which of the 4 sources is being used.

other brands like planar dont have this feature. you have to go into the
setp menu to change the source.

i sometimes do this, and the only problem i've seen is that when one
computer goes to sleep before the other, the lcd switches to the one
that still has the signal. so i get confused when i look at the lcd.
my desk has 4 dual-ported lcd's on them.... not to mention 5 wireless
mice...

Yep. Been there, done that.

Just use the front panel button on the monitor to switch between inputs.
