Default How many tapes can DLT media be used ?

Hi there,

Does anyone have any real world figures of holw many times DLT IV (DLT 7000)
media can be used ?
Quantum say it can go past the heads 1,000,000 times but what is it really
like ?

I'm trying to find out at which point media should be junked and replaced
with new, as we've been having problems with (potentially) old media pulling
the tape leader out of whack on our DLT7000 based libraries.

Thanks

Mark

It's been a while since I was hands-on with DLT equipment, but I
recall that the brands of media I was using had no-questions-asked
replacement warranty. I never had to take them up on it. Also, the
application I was using (Veritas Backup) showed detailed soft/hard
error rates for each tape in my library. The tapes that showed the
highest soft rates got used for some one-time archival backup and
taken out of regular rotation.

I never really junked a tape. I don't think I ever saw a hard errror.
