Has it recurred at two different recipients or only one? If it recurs, we may need to know: -- printer driver, i.e. whether it is up to date; -- PC OS (up to date -- fax application. -- Don Phillipson Carlsbad Springs (Ottawa, Canada) |

Check for the obvious, a piece of paper or label jammed under the scanner unit |

(I tried to look up information on the LJ3015 on the HP sales web page, but they've made the daring choice of having some Javascript or stylesheet or other web technology make their search box unusable. Good luck with that, HP!) -- Warren Block * Rapid City, South Dakota * USA |

Check for any contamination on the glass, it can be surprisingly narrow and will be the length of the black area on sent faxes. Could be correction pen residue or similar. Clean with a glass cleaner if necessary. Does the problem occur when you photocopy? If so it has nothing to do with faxing or drivers. Tony |

As others have mentioned, the first thing to do is to try to make a copy
using the all in one printer. If the result is clean, then chances are the sheet scanner device is working correctly and it is more than likely the problem is at the receiving end. If the problem shows up on more than one receiving unit, then the problem is with the sheet feeder after all. The cause may be a problem with the sheet scanner illumination being uneven, the scanner portion in that area being covered with something, dirty or misplaced mirror. It also may occur if the paper is being held too far away from the scanner glass in that area. Something white (like a torn piece of paper or sticker) stuck on the surface of the sheet scanner glass, would not likely cause a black area to appear, but create a white blank area on that region of the received fax. Pull up the rear of the top panel, near the hy symbol, and check the scanner window and all for some extra stuff. FWIW HP has a toll free number to call to check out your FAX. They will return a FAX to you after receiving yours. Just do a regular FAX to them and await their FAX. do a google search using "fax test number". Bob AZ |
