Default the longer its off the longer it runs

hi, got a problem with my old internet rig. a couple weeks ago it just
crashed on me to some kind of standby mode. the monitor got no signal
but all fans were still running.

after turning it off (reset didnt work anymore) and back on again all
i saw was the graphic cards bios display and the harddrives self
check was to be heard, then i was back to the above situation.

first i thought it was completely dead but after some testing i found
out that the longer i leave it turned off and disconnected from power
source the longer it actually runs fine again. ie when turned off
overnight it will start to boot windows and usually crash again
during scandisk and when i left it off for more than a week it
actually ran for like 8 hours under heavy load. (prime95 and stuff
like that)

anyone got a clue what might be the problem here? i think it might be
the mainboard (msi kt7 something) but i'm really not sure.
thx...

I would suspect the PSU, or the cooling fans/HS plugged with junk
