Default compaq presario 6195ea maximum ram

I'm trying to find out what the maximum ram my 6195EA can use is. The
motherboard is a model 07d0h. There's 2 memory slots, each of one bank, on
the board. It came with 512MB (2 x 256MB modules). I tried taking out one
256MB and replacing it with a 512MB one, hoping to get 768MB, but the system
became very unstable, usually crashing within a few minutes. I'm now using
just the 512MB module and have left the other slot empty and things are
running ok. Does this mean 512MB is the maximum? or could the problems
that occurred with 768MB have been due to having 2 different sized modules?
The memory is all PC2100 (233MHz) CL=2.5 DIMMS. Can anyone help? Cheers.

I have a 6150uk model which uses the same motherboard and want to add
more memory myself. I have been told that I can only use NON-ECC memory
in this board. So maybe the memory that you have tried was ECC
memory.Hope this is of some help to you. Alan

Update on my previous post I think it's correct that you can only use
NON-ECC memory in this board. I have just installed 2 x 512mb pc2100
non-pc and my pc seems stable have been running it for a few hours now
