Compaq Chipset Drivers for DL585 Under Windows 2000?
"Nut Cracker" wrote Nobody expects that an HPaq server will be run without the application of the vendor software to get all the latest supported features and fixes that come from the OEM. More to the point, HP requires you to run HP drivers on an HP server with an HP supported operating system, otherwise, you get no support. And if you read the terms of the warranty agreement, there's a nice clause in there that explains what you have to do before you call HP for warranty support. |

Compaq Chipset Drivers for DL585 Under Windows 2000?
"Jeffrey Alsip" wrote in message
I have never played with a DL machine, Generally, it's an ML machine without the space for internal disks and turned on it's side. It fascinates me (I have wanted to bring this up before) that hardware installed on a ProLiant really DOES NOT EXIST until SmartStart SAYS it exists. SmartStart = Compaq Brand name - not a technology. You install HW, you have to install a driver. If the driver is not available to Windows, it won't find the HW. Surely you can see how this "flies in the face" of modern plug-and-play thinking. Not at all. Most HW thingies say "Install the driver first, then plug the HW in". Plug and play recognises HW that it knows about, when it is plugged in. Windows architecture. SmartStart is the tool that tells the OS that hardware actually exists Nope - SmartStart is just a thing that does a standard Windows install + HP/Compaq drivers install. The driver does the link between the OS and the HW. The standard Windows install already has a load of drivers in it - SmartStart just puts some extra files in the right place so that Windows can play with the plug-in hardware. If you remember the old NT3.51 install, it would go through certain drivers one by one until it found one it thought it was happy with. ...and not actual existence (of the hardware) itself. How strange that must seem to modern computer professionals who suddenly find a ProLiant dropped into their laps. My dad's Sony firewire cancorder installs it's own drivers when you do a "find new hardware". Without needing a driver CD. I thought that was cool but that's some 5 years after Windows 2000 technology. |

Compaq Chipset Drivers for DL585 Under Windows 2000?
"NuTCrAcKeR" wrote Just remember, the convetional SS/HCU/SCU does not exist for the 585. Its a rom based setup with some intimidating settings. And also, the DL585 is a non-Intel processor box. |
