Airlink101 Powerline Ethernet Adapter APL8511
These units show up on sale at Fry's Electronics from time to time. I
bought some yesterday to try out after doing some research on the Internet. Not much in the way of information. I bought two units. Tested them. They did not work. I upgraded the firmware to rev 1.6 on both units. Tried them, no joy. I moved both units in to the same room, tested, and the units seem to be working. If you visit http://groups.google.com and search for the text string AIRLINK101 POWERLINE, you will find a nice little explanation of home wiring and why you may or may not be able to use these units in your house. As far as I can tell, results are random. I'm going to do some more testing later, but for now, I can't use the units to connect my downstairs network to my upstairs computing equipment. From the looks of the explanation, it would not appear that this is a problem with the Airlink101 unit. It would appear to be a generic problem with using PowerLine Ethernet. http://groups.google.com/group/alt.c...line&rn um=2# |
