Default Old hard drive resale prices

I was going through my stash of pensioned-off hard drives today and out
of curiosity looked at the prices they are getting on eBay (not the
asking prices but the completed-sale prices).

E.g., $157.19 for a pre-owned Seagate 500GB ST3500320AS!!

$50.50 for a circuit board for an ST500630AS (allegedly to allow
recovery from a drive with a dead board)

$99.99 (plus $57.75 shipping !!!!) for a pre-owned 5TB Seagate ST5000DM000

$145.99 (with free shipping) for an identical drive

Why???

To use the parts for data recovery usually. The prices might be high but I doubt volume of sales is.
