Default dvd drive recognised as a removeable disk?!

I'm trying to use a new unbranded dvd drive in a 400Mhz dell base unit.
Win98 has recognised it as being there, but it thinks that its a removeable
disk drive, occasionally it thinks its a harddrive, and sometimes it just
wont recognise it at all. According to the device manager, the device type
is 'yyyyyyyyyyyy'.

Any ideas? Anyone?

Thanks,
Alex

Install the drivers that came with the DVD drive.
