Need a CR-563-B CD-ROM drive !
Hi Gang !
I'm looking for a particular old CD-ROM drive. This webpage will explain it all. Anyone with an older Packard Bell, or just about any older 1994/95 computer might have one of these. I know that I used to have lots of 'em, but not now. ( of course. :-) http://home.fuse.net/bobwatts/pbdualcdrom.htm Thanks ! -- boBWatts®© EartH Watts Carburetion Service Whizzbang Computers Official collector of: transfat asian plastic junk trinkets ! |

You're way too late. I got rid of any 2x drives long, long ago. Is this the
one with loony oddball hardware interface and cable to the equally loony sound card (Aztec?) PB used. I suppose you are hellbent on restoring another PB to factory original condition, sort of like other people do with Model A Fords, '57 T-birds, etc... Need a CR-563-B CD-ROM drive !
HI Ben ! "Ben Myers" wrote in message You're way too late. I got rid of any 2x drives long, long ago. Didn't we all ? :-) Is this the one with loony oddball hardware interface and cable to the equally loony sound card (Aztec?) PB used. I don't think it could get an loonier. I always hated these things. I suppose you are hellbent on restoring another PB to factory original condition, sort of like other people do with Model A Fords, '57 T-birds, etc... Ben Myers Hellbent! I like that. I hadn't considered the level of dementia, but Hellbent is not bad! :-) Not only that, but I expect this to be a next to impossible mission. Hell, two IDE channels would be easy. But NOOooooooooo...... this late 1994 PB is presenting challenges that should be extremely interesting....... if I live. Gee Ben, does that mean you're not going to help ?¿¿!? 8=} bob ( I wonder if later versions DID use two IDE channels. This Socket 5 board only has one IDE connector. ) |

Well, why not lash together a hard drive jumpered as master and a standard EIDE
(8x would be a screamer!) CD-ROM drive as slave on the one IDE channel. This should work, interestingly, even if the PB BIOS does not recognize the CD-ROM drive properly. I have hooked up EIDE CD-ROM drives to old 486s successfully this way some years ago. Of course, that would not be factory original, but how many people look under the hood at your PB museum? And you said I couldn't help? ... Ben Myers On Thu, 10 May 2007 07:24:15 -0400, "Robert E. Watts" wrote: HI Ben ! "Ben Myers" wrote in message You're way too late. Hi met !
"metronid" wrote in message -------------------------If you really really need that cdrom I know where you can obtain it It will not have the dual cd printed on it I have located some, but haven't "seen" any yet. The Twin CD-ROM drive sticker is not needed, it's on the top drive. ( please refer to the web page. :-) But, it would be cool to locate another sticker. You will need the controller card Yes, I have the controller card. Computer is factory original except for the lower IDE CD-ROM. And extra memory. Cheaper to go with Bens suggestion Yes, and it's a whole lot easier. But that's not the point. I want to return the thing to OE condition. If I can. I'll find a CD-ROM eventually. I already have some lines on free ones, and cheap ones. The real trick is finding some that actually work. bob |

Need a CR-563-B CD-ROM drive !
Hello!
Yes, I am aware of that one. I was not comfortable with the response from the seller, or their shipping cost. Also, if you take the picture and enhance it, you will see some rust on that CD-ROM drive. I have since heard from people I trust that may have some for cheap or free. bob I am waiting for a response from a person who has this cdrom It was an recent unsold item on ebay Waiting for confirmation Anyone having a legend 10cd 11 cd or 20cd will also have this if the OEM CDROM is inside |

I admire the persistence of your goal to restore the computer to its
factory-original state, like a 1955 Thunderbird or a 1929 Model A... Ben Myers On Tue, 15 May 2007 19:12:18 -0400, "Robert E. Watts" wrote: Hi met !
