Default 8250 internal hard drive

The internal hard drive on my DELL 8250 is starting to chatter when the
virus scan runs -- I suspect it is getting some bad spots, and it is
only a matter of time before it will need to be replaced.

I went to the DELL site, but the only things they had for hard drives
for the 8250 were external. I know that HD are readily available in
newegg, buy.com, etc. but am a bit uncertain that I'll get a compatible
one. For example, I see the term SATA associated with some HDs that are
advertised, and do not know if that type of drive is compatible.

Can someone let me know what to look for?

You need IDE/PATA drives.SATA will not work in your machine.

Default 8250 internal hard drive

I just replaced my HD on my ancient computer. This one has free shipping &
was the cheapest cost per GB I found. It comes alone (no cable, rails,
instructions, software, fancy computer shelf box) & works great. Western
Digital 250GB for $57 with free shipping:

Just to clarify: I meant to say "fancy retail shelf box".

I'd steer away from buy.com and go with either newegg.com or
www.zipzoomfly.com .

Both of the latter two vendors are excellent

Not according to resellerratings.com for zipzoomfly.com. The last 6
month rating was 5.85 outa 10. Lifetime it's still good but it's has
been going down since about 1 year ago.

Thanks Bob. I wasn't aware that Seagate had an outlet so that's good
info to know. I'm not up on the "latest" prices but that sounds like
a decent price for that drive. Appreciate the info because I might
have to get a replacement drive for a 600m laptop later on.

Again, thanks to you and all the others that gave info. I'll begin
making the decision soon.
