Netherlands (Holland). Posted by ##CAMPSITE ADDRESS##. Stadscamping (City camping), Kanaalweg 84, Rotterdam 3041 JE, Netherlands (Holland) #Telephone (00) 3110 415 9772 (from the uk,) 8.20 EUROS (£5.80) for 1 person per night add 4.70 euros each for additional person. ## WEBSITE##. http://www.stadscamping-rotterdam.nl/index.htm ###NOTE#### ROTTERDAM CITY STREET MAP REQUIRED TO FIND THIS CAMPSITE available here http://www.citoplan.nl/shop/ (all maps are available on the HSS Ferry and in the terminal, (and in the (nl) newsagents, and in bookshops from 1.47 euros) ### ##CAMPING##. The campsite is 15 minutes walk , NNW from Rotterdam Central Station. The distance from the central station Rotterdam to Stadscamping (campsite) is half a mile. You must purchase a street map to find this location. But it is very worthwhile to find this campsite as the site is lovely and in rural location, near a lovely canal and adjoining a horse stable and sports field. The area is quiet and has lots of nature and the campsite is cleaned daily. There is hot showers and good facilities and a small cafe available. Supermarkets are nearby. Staff from Stadscamping can speak english well and are helpful if you would like to call and make any sort of enquiries. Telephone 00 3110 4159 772 from the UK. Camping at Stadscamping (City camping) Rotterdam is 8.20 euros per night for one person inclusive. Add 4.70 euros for each additional person.. If you arrive late to Hoek Van Holland from the late ferry there is a possibility of B&B at the local Hotel in Hoek Van Holland (town) for only 30 euros PP. If you are late but choose to continue to the campsite etc, just go onto the campsite, you can pay the following morning. ##24 HOURS TO NL/HOLLAND## It is not worth going to the Netherlands for 24 hours etc. You will need at least a few days. If you do not like camping or cannot afford tents etc there are cabins available at Stadscamping for 27.70 euros per night but you will need a sleeping bag. I do not know if this is per person. Phone for availability is reccomended 003110 4159772. ======================================== ##ROTTERDAM CITY## Rotterdam is a great fun place to stay and has a variety of attractions. Rotterdam is also a great stepping stone for Amsterdam. In many ways Rotterdam is a much nicer place to stay than Amsterdam. For a start Rotterdam is near the Hook of Holland Ferry Terminal (only about 15kms). Rotterdam is a very safe, clean and has rural as well as urban areas. The city of Rotterdam is situated on the banks of the River (Nieuwe Maas) and the many canals and waterways. The sightseeing in Rotterdam is outstanding. There are plenty of low budget things to do either free or under or arround £5 (gbp), like cinema, parks, museums, McDonalds restaurants etc, canal & river walks, the public library, shops & markets. There is also the city zoo, the Euromast in Het Park and the Erasmus bridge and (free outside only) Harbour Museum walks. There is also a wonderful working Dutch Windmill in the Delfshaven District, and is easy to find near the river. Rotterdam is thoroughly pleaseant with lots of othe things to do. Architecture varies throughout the city, many old as well as new buildings can be seen. There are many artistic sculptures throughout the city. There is a wonderful varitey of shops. Theres a huge shopping centre and hundreds of other interesting smaller shops all over the city including many GROW SHOPS and Head Shops. You may recognise some views from recent James Bond movies. Prices for goods are comparable to the uk, but alchohol in tourist bars can be expensive (much less in supermarkets). ##WINDMILL## Visit the working WINDMILL FLOURMILL at Delfshaven (District), where a restored working WINDMILL museum may be viewed. The museum is called De Distilleerketel, where you can actually go inside and climb up onto the rafters of this working windmill and see the giant vanes turning from the outer walkway. ##FINE ARTS & POP## If you like the fine arts, there are plenty of theatre and arts presentations available. Visit the Rotterdam library for a wealth of information on performing arts. Pop concerts are also available and posters displaying events can be found throughout the city or in newspapers. ##CANNABIS##. Cannabis is available throughout Rotterdam. There are cannabis coffee shops near the Central Station in Rotterdam as well as throughout Rotterdam, Amsterdam and the Netherlands (Holland). Cannabis sold over the counter can vary in strength , and can be mild, medium or very strong. Ready made cannabis joints are sold almost everywhere, either in bars, coffee shops or gift shops, especially Head Shops. I reccomend that you should try a ready made MILD CANNABIS JOINT, even if you are experienced with cannabis. You should inhale very little of the cannabis to see what the effects are, perhaps less than 1 inhale for the first attempt. You will not want to spoil your evening by taking too much at once. Effects from cannabis are almost immediate and last from 2 to 4 hours. ##SENSI SEED SHOP##. All types of cannabis including, joints, and seeds from 11 euros available at the SENSI SEED SHOP, Henegouwerlaan 67 (street name & No), (3021 CT ROTTERDAM) (Phone 00 3110 476 3044 from the uk. Staff in this shop are Dutch & English speaking ##WHAT IS CANNABIS##. Cannabis is the flowering part of the HEMP plant and it is also the female flower. There are several strains/types of cannabis(hemp). These have been crossed with cannabis from different countries and regions etc. This means the psychoactive chemicals contained in the herb varies and therefore the effect. Cannabis is sold either as a block of cannabis resin known as hashish or hash and as the budding/flowering part, known as buds (which are green and very smelly). Price for cannabis varies but generally 2 grams of cannabis costs 12 euros. Normally cannabis is sold prepacked in lableled packets showing the type of cannabis and weight. Most establishments offering cannabis offer range of different sorts of cannabis. ##HOW TO GET TO THE NETHERLANDS/HOLLAND##. Travel to The Port of Harwich and board the HSS Ferry to The Hook of Holland (Hoek Van Holland). ##FERRY TERMINAL##. There is a train station at the ferry terminal at Harwich. Trains depart regularly from London. There is also the possibility of parking a car in the nearby town of PARKESTON. Allow plenty of time if you wish to try and park a car there as the walk from town to terminal alone will take 20 minutes. There is also limited parking which is also not guarenteed to find a space etc, and be carefull not to park on restrictions etc. ##FERRY##. The ferry costs £52. (£26 each way for foot passengers. ) It is reccomended that you buy your ticket at your time of travel and also at time of travel on RETURN to UK. Food and beverages on the ferry are expensive so a large packed lunch is reccomended. The journey is also quite long and takes about 4 hours. The ferry is very large and fast and travels at arround 40 knots (over 40 miles an hour). The distance from Harwich to Hook of Holland is arround 170 miles. The HSS Ferry also carrys cars etc. Departure times as of 2002 are Harwich to Hook of Holland Dep10.40 Arr15.20 Dep19.20 Arr23.55. STENNA LINE INFORMATION is 08705 755755 (5) (4). Further information available at www.stennaline.co.uk Note# (HARWICH PORT) You must check in as soon as possible to avoid missing your FERRY CONNECTION. If you go and sit in the wrong waiting room which is for the Vehicle passengers, Stenna Line Staff will not come and tell you to go to the other waiting room a quarter of a mile away. The ferry terminal for FOOT PASSENGERS is next to where the HSS Ferry is docked, it is NOT next to where the cars are parked, on your left opposite the garage as you arrive in the Ferry Port. The HSS Ferry is the smaller Catermaran type vessel and NOT the Huge cargo (liner type) of vessel on which foot passengers are NOT allowed to travel. IF YOU MISS YOUR HSS FERRY, YOU MAY HAVE TO WAIT 10 TO 12 HOURS FOR THE NEXT HSS FERRY. This is the only ferry for foot passengers. You must check in when you arrive at Harwich Port. Ask a member of Port Staff or Security the location of the TICKET OFFICE for foot passengers. ##TRAINS IN NL (HOLLAND)##. The train from The Hook of Holland to Rotterdam (single) should cost approximately 4.80 euros. The distance is about 15kms and takes about 30 minutes. Go to the ticket machine at the end of the platform, which is also next a ticket office (normally closed). Select a single ticket to Rotterdam Central. (After selecting the Destination you will normally press each of the left had buttons below.) ##LANDMARK## The Rotterdam Central Station is next to a huge obelisk landmark multi stories building, so it is always easy to find. ##GOING TO AMSTERDAM## Rotterdam has good links to Amsterdam by rail (18 euros return) and tickets are valid until 4am the following day. Trains are very good in the netherlands/holland. You must get your ticket from the ticket office or from a ticket machine. ### If you get your ticket from the conductor on the platform or on the train it will be more expensive, about double the price or even more. GET TICKETS FROM TICKET MACHINES for best results. ##MONEY BELT##. You MUST get a money belt to keep your money ETC. A good moneybelt may be worn beneath your clothes. You will feel much better knowing spare money/credit cards/E111 are there and out of site. Keep only what money you need in your pockets. You must not leave any money etc in your tent. The campsite requires to keep your passport so this will be safe. ##FORM E111 ## For medical treatment in a member state you require form E111 which is available free from the POST OFFICE in the uk. Form E111must be completed and stamped at the post office before your journey commences. A copy of the form must be given to the hopital staff if requiring medical treatment. A photocopy of the E111form and of your passport in case you lose it, should also be obtained. If you do not have a Form E111 and you require medical treatment you may incurr a very large bill. ##FOOD## Fast food (chips/burgers etc) is very expensive in comparism with the supermarkets. If you are not too fussy you can get very nice dutch bread, cheese and drinks from the supermarkets. Do this and you can live on only a few pounds a day. Then you can save your money for amsterdam. Alchohol is also much cheeper in the supermarkets than in the bars. If you buy bottles, you will pay surplus/deposit and you will be expected to return them when you will receive the deposit back. Again buy few cans of beers or something, and these either take to the campsite or with you for sightseeing. ##RADIO## Take small INEXPENSIVE transistor radio (am & fm) that you can leave in your tent or carry with you. They're only about £5 in major electrical outlets, 4 AA batteries will last you two weeks. Dutch radio is really great, with loads of uk hits. ##EXCHANGE RATE##. 1 EURO = £ 0.70 (70p) (approx) ## CAMPING WILD / camping off approved campsites##. Camping wild, even in vehicles or caravans is not allowed. There is a fixed fine for camping wild from the police. This is approximately 80 euros. ##CRIME##. Compared to Amsterdam, Rotterdam has much less street crime, and the liklihood of robbery of tourists is much less. Care must be taken to hide valuables at all times. Do not talk to street traders peddling drugs etc. This is common arround Rotterdam Central Station and in Amsterdam. There is a high liklihood that you will be approached and offered drugs on the street, and if you agree you will proberbly either be robbed, assaulted or sold complete rubbish. Cannabis should only be purchased from a retailer or coffee shop. Even more care must be taken if intending to go to AMSTERDAM where the liklihood of encountering street crime is very high and robberys of tourists are frequent. ## CUSTOMS ##. Importing cannabis to the uk is illegal. Customs may use electronic equipment or SNIFFER DOGS to detect cannabis whilst your luggage is in the possesion of the FERRY OPERATOR or after collection of your luggage etc. On return to the uk, Customs may search your luggage and ask you to empty you pockets. They may ask you if you have any drugs with you. Customs may also ask you the purpose of your trip, where you have been to, and for how long. If customs are very suspicious of you they may search your body. ##HOW CAN I GET A RELIABLE AND FREE SUPPLY OF CANNABIS IN THE UK## Seeds are the answer, available on these websites http://www.sensiseeds.com/ml/shop/as...ev=3&PluNr=227 and here www.tasteofamsterdam.co.uk Simply grow some cannabis indoors using electric lighting in a grow room (closet/airing cupboard etc). A cannabis plant can be grown with only one 150 watt light bulb available at all hardware shops at arround £1, but three or four of the bulbs producing 450+ watts of lighting will produce much better results. Lighting should be switched on for between 8 and 12 hours per 24 hours and a timer may prove useful. Use mirrors to intensify lighting and a small space heater to produce tropical conditions. A large tub containing up to 10 litres of compost should be used. Old 10 litre paint tubs are ideal. Do not make drainage holes to prevent drying out which is fatal to the plants. Cannabis leaves will be available for smoking in 8 - 10 weeks. 1 x 10 litre tub will hold several plants and if grown together to form 1 plant for obvious legal reasons will also allow for male plants to be removed. Dried HEMP leaves can make excellant smoking matter but Cannabis Buds are much better. ##Note: Taking too many leaves can cause damage to the plants as the leaves are used by the plants to make their food by photosynthasis. #################################### ## HOTELS/B & B/ HOSTELS IN ROTTERDAM ## There are also plenty of other accomodation available in Rotterdam ranging from 10 euros to 100 euros (FOR CHEAP HOTELS ETC). ### HELP FROM USE-IT-ROTTERDAM ##, Use-it is an information service for young budget tourists visiting Rotterdam.
