PCI Express
Hello,
I've heard that Intel is developing a new standard for her motherboards. It's called PCI Express. I now want know what the changing are against the old AGP en PCI ports on my computer. And if my graphics card, which uses an AGP slot, can be used in the new PCI Express slots, or do I have to buy a new card? And when will PCI Express be available, on the motherboards and on the graphics cards? Will there be other devices, who will use PCI Express, or will there only be 1 on a motherboard, just like AGP? Greetz Frederiek Jonckheere PCI Express is the third generation of the PCI bus. The second generation is known as PCI-X. And of course the original PCI bus is the first generation. PCI Express will eventually replace earlier PCI standards as well as AGP. However, it's likely that motherboard manufacturers will continue to supply AGP slots for a long time to come, until they are ready to phase out AGP. Yousuf Khan |
