CPC Farnell and other component suppliers (delivery charges)
Does anyone know the minumum delivery charge for CPC Farnell?
http://cpc.farnell.com/ Their website says the price is shown when checking out but you have to join to see the checkout screen. ----- Am putting together a shortlist for myself to buy components and various electronic items. Have been a Maplins shopper but I am told they are not always good value. Which other suppliers would you recommend for Maplins type good? I have listed the following. ----- JPR Electronics http://www.jprelec.co.uk/ Delivery on orders below £30.00 is £3.00 and accepted only from customers with approved credit accounts. Rapid Electronics http://www.rapidelectronics.co.uk/ Delivery on orders below £25(+VAT) is £3.45(+VAT). Free on orders over £25 (+VAT). Maplins (for reference) http://www.maplin.co.uk/ Delivery on orders under £35 is £2.50. --------- Electrovalue http://www.electrovalue.co.uk is now closed. SimplyParts http://www.simplyparts.co.uk/ is now closed Flint http://www.flint.co.uk/ is too specialised. Future Electronics http://snipurl.com/nbn1 is too specialised. |

Orders over £35 - No charge I don't think that tells the complete story; I tried to place a Credit Card order for a single 14GBP part last week, and whilst the 5.99 handling charge mentioned above was included, there was also an additional charge of 10GBP (IIRC) making it thoroughly uneconomic. I think the thing about both RS and CPC/Farnell is that they only really work out on expensive/large orders, or if you have a trade account. Eventually, though, I found Charles Hyde http://www.chsinteractive.co.uk/ and Grandata http://www.grandata.co.uk/ and bought the part from the latter. They originally invoiced me just over 14GBP inclusive, but when it turned up the next day, the advice note said they'd only billed 11GBP, so I was dead chuffed. :-) Best Regards, Alex. -- Alex Butcher Brainbench MVP for Internet Security: www.brainbench.com Bristol, UK Need reliable and secure network systems? I don't really understand that. I've placed small orders with them (recently) and I've never been charged more than the amounts stated. Usually I make up 35 quid somehow! (you didn't ask for next day delivery or something, did you?). What did the invoice say? I think the thing about both RS and CPC/Farnell is that they only really work out on expensive/large orders, or if you have a trade account. Not really. I use both and I rarely make big orders. I try to meet the postage-free minimum, though. -- [Davism - a condition by which the sufferer experiences an inability to give concise answers, express reasoned argument or opinion. (you didn't ask for next day delivery or something, did you?). What did the invoice say? I only went for standard 2-5 day delivery. All I can think is that I must have accidentally added two of the part to my basket instead of one (and not noticed given my state of half-asleepedness at the time!). Trying to reproduce now, I get 18.78, which is much more reasonable. Still 8GBP more than Grandata, and slower delivery, though! I think the thing about both RS and CPC/Farnell is that they only really work out on expensive/large orders, or if you have a trade account. Not really. I use both and I rarely make big orders. I try to meet the postage-free minimum, though. I was trying to get a dozen or so electrolytic caps from RS last year for a "hobby" repair, and their minimum order quantities meant the order was something like 30GBP. By going to Maplin, I probably paid twice the per-component price, but could just buy one of each. In practice, I can't remember the last time a CPC order on 'standard delivery' failed to turn up the very next day. Even if ordered 5 minutes before closing! I wanted some unusual RJ cables [1] and RS were the only source..it was rather expensive. But Maplin have gone downhill *so* much, and the nearest branch is tiny and 35 miles away! [1] The modified RJ connector used on a lot of DEC equipment - anyone know sources? Has the offset lug... -- [Davism - a condition by which the sufferer experiences an inability to give concise answers, express reasoned argument or opinion.
