Default Vuescan, IR cleaning, which film scanner?

Trying to decide on a film scanner, and really want good quality IR
cleaning like ICE or FARE. This need is the about the only thing
making me look at the Canon FS4000 and Nikon Coolscan IV, as opposed
to the Minolta DiMAGE Scan Dual III, which is only $275, and would
probably serve me fine at 2820dpi.

SO... I have Vuescan. On a recent thread here someone with a Canon
FS4000 compared Vuescan's IR channel cleaning favorably with Canon's
FARE. Any other opinions on the quality of Vuescan's IR cleaning vs.
FARE or ICE^3? The Minolta ScanDual III got good reviews for quality
and speed, but it's IR cleaning was pretty weak. Does Vuescan's IR
cleaning work equally well on any scanner with an IR channel? If so,
it would seem I could get FARE or ICE quality (or close to it) IR
cleaning on the cheaper Minolta.

Opinions as to the degree of my delerium here much appreciated :-)

Peace,
Sanaka

Default

If I had to choose between the Nikon LS-IV and the Canon FS-4000, I'd go
with the Nikon solely for scanning speed. The Canon is notoriously slow.
If speed isn't an issue, then they're both great scanners.
