Default Unknown device in Deskpro ENS/P800

Hi,
After a new install on a new HD of win 98 SE , in the Device Manager I find under other devices an
unknown device, both with yellow question marks.
I have installed the drivers for sound, display, mouse, keyboard etc. etc. all working fine, and I
now wonder which device causes the a.m. entry in the device manager.

Regards, Hans

Yes , The monitor is recognized in the heading Monitors with its correct make and type.
I should have mentioned that I installed a dual boot system, win 98SE and XP pro.
In the XP device manager no question marks show up. Apparently the missing driver for Win 98SE is
automatically found in the XP setup. I have tried to compare the devices in both lists but have not
found any clue sofar.

did you install drivers for your NIC/modem and your USB hardware?

some USB hardware, the drivers have to be installed before you plug in the
hardware

Sure Dan, all hardware drivers are installed and the devices are correcly shown without any
exception. It is just an "unknown" device that is causing the "trouble".
I bought the PC 2nd hand, HD was damaged, so no imaging possible.
The PC works fine , without any further problems, just that little irritating question mark in the
device manager that in fact does not harm proper operation at all.
I had only hoped that someone having insight knowlidge of this very Compaq model could point me in
the right direction where to look in the compac driver base.

Sorry, there is no Dlink or other network card installed.
The compac has an onboard Intel Pro/100 network connector.
As I said, it's unknown.
