Default Dell Class Action email ???

I got this email yesterday and wonder if this is legit? For a lawyer,
he doesn't say much so it makes me suspicious. And I don't recall bad
mouthing Dell so I think he's just extracting email addresses here and
sending mass emails out (ambulance chaser type lawyer
comes to mind) ???

Here's the email I got :
------quote--------

I am a Los Angeles attorney who had a similar problem as you with Dell
Computer. I am bringing a Class Action against Dell and want to know
if you are interested in joining it.

I need to know the state you live in, the date you purchased you
computer, and if you purchased an Extended Warranty.

Anyone else get this email ? I have no beef with Dell tho I'm not
ignorant to other people's concerns and problems.

PS-- Any one know of a URL for seeing if this guy is really an
attorney in California? Some states have a State Bar Association or
such where you can see if the guy is a practicing lawyer in that
state.

I did a quick check of this guy and I pulled this URL up but I don't
know if it's the same guy. The guy in the link looks like he was
suspended briefly from the bar.

For not paying a, probably, court ordered child support or alimony.

Lessee. John David Rothschild apparently had a mid-life crisis,
got divorced, had trouble paying child support not a year ago,
and probably needs money. If he *is* the "Randy" Rothschild that
emailed you, seems like he's drumming up business hoping for a
windfall in court-approved legal fees from a class action suit
against Dell.

Even if successful, the way these "consumer" class action suits
usually work out is that there's a settlement of a few million
bucks, 2/3 of which goes to the lawyers [remember, typically
there's an agreement in these that the lawyer gets 1/3 as a fee,
plus expenses, and any self-respecting lawyer can easily gin up
enough expenses to double the fee], and 1/3 of which is doled
out to the class as $25 certificates redeemable on future
purchases from the company sued.

If you had trouble with Dell before, are you gonna shell out a
few hundred bucks for a new computer so you can get your $25?

I smell a scam, primarily because the alleged attorney doesn't list
specifics about his street location and address, state, and phone
information.

For fun, you might want to play him up until you are asked for personal
information or a credit card # to see what he's up to.

I doubt it is legitimate. But even if it is, why would anyone want to
assist a lawyer in another company rip off?

Just a side note. By note including his full street address in an
unsolicited email, he is in direct violation of the Can Spam act. He is also
in violation of his verizon Terms of Service, which doesn't allow
unsolicited commerical email.

Smells.
