A rescue CD will scan any OS, and cannot be blocked by rootkits, because you set it as the boot system in BIOS. They are usually large downloads .... and include the latest AV sig files. Kaspersky makes a good one. You don't need an Internet connection to run it, in fact, I recommend you unplug the network. https://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/krd18 You can either burn it to a DVD or to a USB (use freeware Rufus in ISO mode for that). PS Last Rufus to run under XP was version 2.18 http://rufus.ie/downloads/ Prefer the portable version. https://github.com/pbatard/rufus/rel...ufus-2.18p.exe []'s -- Don't be evil - Google 2004 We have a new policy - Google 2012 |

wrote: I got disenchanted with Kaspersky sticking his stick into my spokes and thought I'd try the 400MB AVG download. When run get "not a valid Win 32 Application" - That's usually one of the three XP variants (SP1-3), the last being the DOTNET and some significance to a shift towards I'd assume W7. Such proprietary software cases, I've personally encountered with hardware computer extensions -- namely music gear of possible dollar value for signal-chaining instruments, recording purposes and such -- I might have take it to the latest Microsoft OS installs. Fresh. No kidding monkey-business. When a 3rd-party hardware manufacturer places its latest chip-driven soundFx wonders, the developmental team responsible is competing with a handful of similar marketing strategies. Equality. Which they're not, other than presumably not waiving your right to consumer protection laws for products, after testing and evaluating, on your time, to a reasonable expectation and claim of unmarketable sustainability, for "your money back". Time's up. Once up and running on the OS platform, clock begins ticking down on whether that product is all of what they said you could possibly think it would be. (Unless its a movie that caused your brain to become sick, and you can't get your money back. Or software, depending, in some cases on how contractual agreements are initially presented for your perusal.) - Disclaimer: I've never run AV software;- nopers, would touch it with a bargepole, even if you gave me one free. |

And you found the real download links. The Offline installer was too obfuscated to debug. The Trojan (AKA online installer) AVG offers on their XP page is also a C++ Visual Studio 2015 [ Win Vista ] executable.(According to ExeinfoPE]. I didn't try running it. hxxps://install.avcdn.net/avg/iavs9x/avg_antivirus_free_setup.exe The main download server inside the executable is "shepherd.avcdn.net", which is rather appropriate. For Windows XP: Download 32 Bit Version- //AVG Free Antivirus 2019 is best free Antivirus solution for your PC. All was well till the 2nd morning when I turned off AVG's nag screen which was trying to sell me the paid version. Suddenly my CPU usage, both cores, shot to 100%. Temps went from a sedate 33 to 44c. I shutdown. This evening while trying to turn off AVG it cured itself. When Googled I found another man who had same problem with AVG. No fix. Uninstalled it. Tried to reinstall Kaspersky, no good, install fails in the middle of install. Guess I have no anti virus. |
