Intel to phase out several 45nm CPUs

Monica Chen, Taipei; Joseph Tsai, DIGITIMES [Tuesday 16 November 2010]

Intel has recently notified its partners that the company will phase out
21 45nm processors to allow a smooth transition to the new Sandy Bridge
processor.

Intel already issued product discontinuance notice (PDN) for its Core
i7-975X earlier this quarter with end of lifecycle (EOL) to take place
in the first quarter of 2011, while the Core i5-750 will see PDN in the
first quarter of 2011 and EOL in the third quarter.

As for 45nm quad-core products, four processors including Core 2 Quad
Q9650 already had PDN early this quarter, while five more processors
including Core 2 Quad Q9300, 9505 and Q8400 will receive PDN in the
third quarter.

For the dual-core, Core 2 Duo E8600 and E8500 will see PDN in the third
quarter with Core 2 Duo E7500 and E7600 scheduled to have PDN in the
second quarter and EOL in the fourth.

As for entry-level products, Pentium E6300 has already been issued with
PDN, while Pentium E5600 will see PDN in the second quarter and EOL in
the third quarter. Pentium E5600 and E6600 will both have PDN in the
first quarter of 2011.

Meanwhile, Celeron E3200 and E3300 will see PDN in the first and the
fourth quarter of 2011, respectively.

As for the new products, Intel will launch close to 10 new processors
including quad-core Core i7-2600 and 2500, Core i5 2400 and 2300, and
dual-core Core i3-2120 and 2100. Quad-core processors will consume only
95W with dual-core CPUs to use 65W. The company will also have Core
i3-2100T with only 32W TDP for mini-ITX motherboard and all-in-one PC.
