Heat Sink and Fan that comes with graphc cards
"lilbon03" wrote in message . .. Well I was wondering which one is better, Heat sink or a fan that comes with a graphics card. That's like asking whether the leg or foot is better, that comes with a human body. Generally speaking, a heat sink that comes with a GRAPHICS CARD isn't much use without a fan. That's because heat sinks on graphic cards are generally small, and therefore can't remove much heat through passive (radiant) cooling. So, they need a fan to improve cooling efficiency enough to be even somewhat effective. There are passively cooled video cards. These are typically older models that don't generate a lot of heat, or have custom heat sinks that are MUCH larger (often filling multiple expansion slots) or use other tricks, such as heat pipes, to transfer heat to other heat sinks (think of them as auxiliary heat sinks). -Dave |
