Has Google been hacked?

I ran a full system scan with nothing found. I updated ad-aware with the latest definitions today. It found a few cookies and deleted them. Nothing else was found. I cleared ALL stored information out of firefox, rebooted the system and tried again. Again I got mostly results with urls ending in .pl http://www.google.com/search?q=+%22h...&start=30&sa=N I did get some relevant results, but it is really ODD that most of the results are off-topic, and hosted in Poland? -Dave |

Because of this, and the fact that other people don't seem to be having the same experience that you have, the most likely solution is that you have some sort of malware. I agree 110% with this malware issue. Anything's possible. But my antivirus software has completed two sweeps of the entire system (with today's definition files) and has found nothing. Ad-aware (with today's definition files) reports nothing. The system sits behind a hardware and software firewall. It is about as secure as any windows computer could be, which is to say, NOT VERY. -Dave |

Google UK works fine for the same search. See http://www.google.co.uk/search?as_q=...s=&safe=images Kev No it doesn't. You didn't click through far enough. Most of the results of your own search that you ran are off-topic, and the urls are hosted in Poland. -Dave http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=+%2...&start=20&sa=N (this is an example of a few pages down in your own search results) |

Someone else ran a search on Google UK and got the same results. -Dave http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=+%2...&start=20&sa=N The above is not a search that I ran, it was run on a different computer, on the UK google web site. Note that most of the results are off-topic, and hosted in Poland. It's not my equipment, and it's certainly not any software on my equipment. -Dave |

Has Google been hacked?
Mike T. wrote: I just ran several searches on google, from their "advanced" search page, and NONE of them gave me any useful links at all. The last search I ran was for exact phrase "the history of milk chocolate". I got 184 totally OFF-topic results, which included (my favorite) "used ultralight aircraft for sale in Australia". Oh, and all the links end in .pl It kind of looks like Google has been hacked. -Dave I just tried it and, although the first two results weren't relevant, the others following them were. None of them ended in .pl. You'll get better results if you don't try to search for an exact phrase. I only search for an exact phrase if I'm looking for the title of a book, song, movie, etc. or a quote. |

Furthermore if 1000 people have accessed google UK, and its a 'cookie' ""hack"", then all 1000 people would have been 'hacked'(cookie dropped) and that has everything to do with ;your; rig as the misdirect is sitting in a cookie on your harddrive in your machine. That being said, if you cleared it manually, ya just should have said so.. http://www.google.co.uk/search?q=+%2...&start=20&sa=N The above is not a search that I ran, it was run on a different computer, on the UK google web site. By having the sites all refer to one another or something... Lordy |

Has Google been hacked?
Stan Horwitz wrote:
You need to improve your searching skills. Try searching for ... milk+chocolate+history and include the + symbols. That's wrong. The plus signs don't make a difference for the above search in google. "By default, Google only returns pages that include all of your search terms. There is no need to include "and" between terms." The only time that plus signs matter is if you specifically want to search on "common words" that Google has ignored, like "the", "a", "where", "how". Moreover, you need to have a space before each plus sign. "If a common word is essential to getting the results you want, you can include it by putting a "+" sign in front of it. (Be sure to include a space before the "+" sign.)" http://www.google.com/support/bin/st...tml&ctx=basics |
