Presario 1694 drive format problem / question
A Linux install gone bad reformatted the drive before I got an
indication that it wouldn't work. The computer didn't come with a CD capable of reinstalling the system (Win 98 SE) from a clean drive. I managed to get almost everything working by using a Win 98 SE CD from a dead computer then applying all the Compaq patches. BUT, now it won't hibernate, suspend to disk, or whatever you want to call it. Suspend to RAM mode requires battery power to refresh memory and won't last long so it isn't a good solution for my use. Apparently the system expects to see a reserved area on disk to save the system state and memory. Obviously, it isn't there. Any way to format the drive to accomodate the system hibernate feature with the software I have at hand? |
