PC has no video, doesn't beep...

Just got a call from my neice's fiance. OK, they know I'm kinda deep in
computers, but I don't know what to tell him. They have a PC, maybe
600-800 Mhz or so, running Win2000 with 128 mb. It was doing fine, just
fine, but he was shoving the case back in it's cranny and the video
cable got pinched and Wham! No video. They go out and buy another
monitor. Guess they wanted an LCD, so they get a Viewsonic 17" LCD -
they'd been using a Viewsonic 17" CRT. This, too, evidently, uses only a
VGA connection. He tells me the new LCD only has one connector, and it's
obviously VGA. Not only this, they buy another video card at Circuit
City, a 128 MB card, and they get it all hooked up and ... NO video! The
PC doesn't even beep when they turn it on. The monitor's getting power
and so's the PC. Any ideas? Thanks!

I'd have to wonder what else got pinched. Do this . . . take the computer
out, disconnect EVERYTHING from the outside. Take the cover off. Pull out
all the expansion cards and reseat them. While you're in there, check for
anything else that might be loose. (cpu?, cpu fan cable?, mainboard power
connector?)

Then put the cover back on, put the computer back in it's place and connect
all connectors again firmly. If still not working . . .

Was the PC powered on when the monitor cord got pinched? (I sincerely hope
not) I'm thinking the video card might have been loosened while the
computer was running. If so, it wouldn't surprise me if this is a damaged
motherboard now. -Dave

Did the PC have onboard video prior to the upgrade and did they disable the
onboard video?

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it was powered up when this happened. Yes, that's
a possibility, that the MB's fried or something else, who knows? I'm
sure he'll be more careful in the future!
