Mel, I got the MS automatic download message regarding SP3 and clicked on
the download button but after a short while the message ICON disappeared and
thus far nothing has downloaded and that was 2 days ago. I'm not sure what
that means but in the past I haven't had any problems with the MS downloads.
Perhaps, I'm in the queue for downloading for some time in the future.

Default XP Home service pack 3???

Hi!

Has anyone installed this?
Any problems?

I've done several installations of SP3 on XP Pro systems and will do
one with XP Home tonight. The systems varied from fresh installs to
ones that had been in service a while.

I haven't noticed any problems yet.

Mel, I agree...it's weird. However, I have had that happen before and after
a few days, I will get the message to begin the download process. Since SP3
is not a major update and my current XP/SP2 installation is working just
fine, I'm not too concerned at the moment. I'll give it a few more days and
if nothing happens then I'll go find a site to manually download/install it.

Thanks.

Harry

I installed it on my home PC running XP Pro. I see no differences, I guess
that is good and bad. I had no problems, that's good, but I see no
improvements, features, or reliability changes either. So, was it worth it,
maybe 4 days is not long enough to know.

Mel,

I attempted to install Service Pack 3 last night -- started it around
midnight and went to bed. When I got up this morning, I was informed
that the upgrade was successful, and that I only needed to restart my
system to complete the upgrade. When I attempted to restart the system,
it failed to restart. I finally got it up in "safe mode" and then
pondered what to do next. Upon the advice of a local computer repair
shop I was advised to uninstall the Service Pack which I did do, but
have found that my system is running a bit slower than before. BTW, my
system is a Media Center XP which I have been told is an advanced
version of XP Pro. Can't verify that, though.

Dave
