Default Compaq Evo D500 USB

Does anyone know if the Compaq Evo D500 has USB 1 Or USB 2 ?
I had assumed it was new enough to be USB 2, but I'm not sure,
because
I got a Mad dog Multi media Hard drive case to run my old HD as a
slave, but when I turn it on, it says something like "this drive
could
run faster with a high speed USB"
Then it says to click here,
And it says on top "Hi Speed USB device attached to a non-HI SPEED
HUB"
then it tells me there are no high speed USB host controllers
installed on this computer.
Thanks, Tony

Quote: D500 is a compact desktop package. While the room for expansion
isn't vast, it is easy enough to get to. Pressing two buttons opens the
case, with the entire shell popping off smoothly (although replacing the
shell takes some lining up to get all four of the case tabs to slide back
in). The system interior blooms open like a flower, with two open PCI
slots mounted sideways on a riser board that snaps out. No drive bays are
available, but the existing drives and the power supply can be swapped
without tools.

A PCI USB 2.0 card is about $10, but with the low profile case, I have
not seen the sale pricing of a Low prifile USB card...

None of the specification I could find indicate it was a 2.0 standard...
Maybe Ben will have a solution...

I had to fabracate a Low profile Nic Card attachment for a Gateway
Essential 933C in a St. Charles Flex Case... It obly took a few minutes
with a hack saw, file, lock Grips, and a small vice...

- PCI expantion slots

You should be able to find or Fab a low profile 2.0 PCI USB card, looking
at the drawing...

thanks JR,
I think there might be room for a regular card, looks like there was a pci
riser card (don't know the correct name)Plugged into a PCI slot, Then the
PCI slot(s) come out horizontally, IIRC.

Speaking of fabrication, I might have been better off fabing some type of
bracket to hold the Slave HD inside.
Looked like there was room in there.
There is only one power supply plug, would need some type of spliter, and I
would need a different cable from the MOBO to The hard drive(s)

Is there any reason that power supply would not handle 2 hard drives.
I would think the MOBO could handle it, as I always understood you could
always have a Master and a slave.
Thanks, Tony

Tony,

Your Compaq Evo D500 is a slow computer compared to what is currently
available. Why not step up and get a faster dual processor combo deal
from Newegg, or Tiger direct.

Or if you live close to one of Fry's Electronic brick and mortar super
stores, they have been advertising some wonderful combo deals in
Newsprint... Last weekend they were advertising a Intel D 430 with
motherboard for $60.

Adding a CPU fan, e-cycled hard drive and DVD burner, a few cables along
with some memory and a 380 power supply and you will have a far faster
system, that you assembled yourself...

Oops forgot you have a ultra slim case, well you could also visit one of
the thrift stores and purchase a $5 older classic computer with a large
housing that would provide good air flow with a little modification...

Just suggesting an upgrade since you are looking to make a second hard
drive fit in the compact case...
