Default Service Tag No no longer listed on Dell

I have an XPS400 about 2 1/2 yrs old. Before installing SP3 I decided to
remove years of crap and do a fresh install of XP Pro. When I went to the
Dell support site to d/l the drivers my service tag number was no longer
valid. I had used this service tag several times in the past with no
problem, but no it's not anailable. I thought this info was kept on the Dell
site for a long time. Has anyone else had this problem??
BTW I was able to find the drivers by digging around the Dell site and the
install went OK. I didn't use my Dell Driver CD since I wanted the latest
uodates from Dell. I also d/l SP3 and burned it to a CD and installed it
that way.

Next time use something like this instead:

DriverBackup! (free)
http://sourceforge.net/projects/drvback/

Not only do you save your working Dell drivers, but all of your other
drivers as well. It might be a good thing to do now actually. :-)

Hi!

I just checked my Dimension 2100's (and L550r's) service tags. Both of
them went in just fine. The details returned were accurate when the
systems were built.

Might be something to do with the site, or maybe there's a typo?

Agreed. As long as it's correct in BIOS he's good.

And you're also right, Dell doesn't use the letter "O" in any of their tags;
only "0" zeroes.

Hi Bill,
Saved my Drivers with this program - but how do you go about re-installing
them?

OMG sorry I was traveling. Did you figure it out? The program should
tell you how.

Many things are either unstable or don't work with 64-bit version of
Windows. Kind of like Linux actually. As Linux and 64-bit Windows are
just niche OS and are generally *not* supported by software developers.
But you knew all this before you started right?
