Default Evo laptop USB trouble

Hi,

same question as seen many many times - basics anyhow...

I have a self powered usb device, and when plugged into my evo n1050v
laptop it is not recognized by windows.

Running xp pro, tried on both sp1 and after updating to sp2 - no luck
Also tried a pcmcia 2xusb 2.0 card, no luck.

The device is added into registry USB/vid_0000&pid_0000 ...or something
like that.

I tried the same device on another laptop i have running xp home, and
it is detecting and working fine!

Now, before i reinstalled xp i updated to the latest of every driver
and the latest bios available from phoenix.

Is this a motherboard non-fixable issue?
Since i have succeeded on my other laptop i have full info on the
device in registry - and i know what driver and inf file it uses. All
of this is present on the evo laptop.

Is the enumeration prosess a motherboard shipset determined prosess or
is it a file/files depentable?

The device i am installing is a expencive measuring device for
automotive, so it is not "just" to get a new one..

HeeEElp - any workarounds??
