Default Compaq5190 HD upgrade

I'm looking at this Compaq 5190 Presario I've inherited. I checked out its
primitive BIOS by doing an f10 and I'm wondering: Does anyone know; if I
put a larger (13G) drive in it, will it autodetect and run? If not, is there
any kind of BIOS upgrade for the thing?
Thanks,
Mike

If the current hard drive is over 8GB, it should support any drive up to
127GB.

Thanks Tom...that makes sense.
Hmmmm....I think this is a 5G drive...that's bad isn't it? I'm gonna need a
bios, some kind of compatible eide HD controller or a new motherboard.
Am I looking at any extraordinary probs putting a new moboard and HD in it?

Maybe not. A simple controller card should fix the problem if it doesn't
work. Many BIG drives come bundled with the card (my 250GB WD did). I'd
leave the little drive in as a boot drive and put in a second drive as a
data drive.

I wouldn't do a Motherboard upgrade. Just not good economics.
