Greetings all,

I am starting to setup my 530S, but have nioticed a strange problem wht
I try to use the CDRW.
On my old 2400 I was able to drag and drop files into the folder using
explorer or have an auto back up set up like in Quicken to save my file
to the RW disk.
I can not figure out what I am missing. I can not drag and drop, I can
not have the auto back-up from Quicken save to the disk.
I have earsed all files from the 2400 so it is clean, I cannot locate a
format for the disk.
So what did I miss.
Sorry for being so ignorant but I tried to search the web for help to
no avail.

Any leads to sites or ideas are greatly appreciated.

Try right clicking the drive and check the Properties dialog box
Do you have "Enable CD recording on this drive" checked?

Top posting corrected

I should mention tha twhen I try to drag and drop it I get a ballon that
open and says I have files waiting to be writtne to the CD but can not
figure out how to do it.

When you have done that, do the files appear (with pale icons) on the CD
drive?
If so, click on the 'Write these files to CD' command (either on the left
hand side of the explorer window, or right click the drive icon and select
the option from the context menu).

I started tonight off with a brand new CDRW.
Ok I was able to click on a file, drag it over and the rigth cikc to write
the file.

But I still can not get Quicken to find the D drive and write my back-up
file to it, it tells me That is unble to access the disk in drive D and make
sure it is not write protected.
Again thanks for your help, hopefully we can work this out.

From what I have been able to find the DE on the end stands for Dell

The other way to do this is to find out where on your hard disk Quicken
squirrels away its backup files. It is a damned nuisance that Quicken has to
stick the backup files (and the data files) somewhere generally inaccessible to
non-geeks. They seem to have learned too well from Microsoft, who hide Outlook
and Outlook Express mailboxes way off in never-never land.

Start by going to the root of the C: drive, clicking Documents and Settings,
then the folder identified by your login name (something like Dave?). Next, try
Local Settings and drill on down until you find a Quicken folder. The other
folder to try is Application Data, with the same approach as for Local Settings.
The Quicken files are buried there somewhere. I found them for a client to help
him migrate his data from an old to a new computer, but I cannot remember where.
This is the sort of thing I should write down, but then I would have trouble
finding the paper in the reams of stuff I have here.

The following article on the web explains what you have apparently been doing on
your Dimension 2400:

Okay, then. Download and install Dell DLA 4.95 A02 from the Dell web site. It
is compatible with XP. You are lucky not to be using Vista.

Here is the URL, but you may find it easier to search it out yourself on the
Dell Support web site:

http://support.dell.com/support/down...&fileid=112751

This page, "How to Format a Disc for Use with DLA (Drag and Drop) Software", on
the HP web site may or may not help:

http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/d...t=816 85&dlc=

Honestly, I am grasping for straws here, because I do not use CD-RW disks
myself... Ben Myers

Default cdrw issue?

Hi!

Will this work even thou my system is not listed? I have the 530S..

It should work just fine with your Dell system. If you didn't have a Dell
computer, it might not work and using it wouldn't be legal.

What you are looking for is known as packet writing software...software that
"formats" a rewriteable disc and then lets you use it as though it were a
big floppy diskette.

CD-RWs are not great for long term data storage--and they can fail without
warning--but for short term backups that you are rotating, they should be
fine. I do the same thing here with Quicken data and have never had any
trouble since 2001 or so. The discs I've been using are new old stock HP 4X
CD-RW discs made by Ricoh. I test the backups and so far they have always
worked perfectly.

It works!!!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to work with me and get this working,
Dell should really install the software that is needed to operate a new PC
properly with hardware installed.

It works!!!!

Thanks so much for taking the time to work with me and get this working,
Dell should really install the software that is needed to operate a new PC
properly with hardware installed.
