Default IOGEAR firewire / usb 2 external hdd

Hi,
I bought the iogear external hd (ghd125c60), I am using it with my ibm
latop, a T30.
It works fine with the usb ports (usb 1), but i want to use it with my
firewire pcmcia card (belkin).
When i use this card with an ipod it works fine, but when I connect my
iogear to the firewire card, the external hd is not detected. i wonder
whether i need to install some drivers or if the firewire connection
of this hd works only with apple?

Any ideas?

Thanks
bernard
