how to create a cue file
Hi,
I've downloaded a zip file for an old intel chipset, unzipping the file creates a folder containing several files: setup.exe/iss/lid/ini, plus some cabs files, dat and a layout.bin I would like like to make a cd from these files, could the layout.bin serve the case? how can I make a cue file? Thanks |

Mike Richter, were you born with "Scam Artist" emblazoned on your face? -------------------------------------- http://groups.google.com/groups?selm...mindspring.com ( No Pipsqueaks have been able to prove ANY of the above is a LIBEL ) ( -- despite Mikey claimed to have proof of misquotes !! ) xms wrote: I've downloaded a zip file for an old intel chipset, unzipping the file creates a folder containing several files: setup.exe/iss/lid/ini, plus some cabs files, dat and a layout.bin I would like like to make a cd from these files, could the layout.bin serve the case? how can I make a cue file? Thanks The layout.bin is not an image file. Just burn the files as data, and run setup. (Isn't there README?) CDmage can generate .cue: Open an image file in CDmage as "Raw Image" type. Track detection options window will pop up and when click "Detect" button, CDmage will prompt you where to save the .cue file that CDmage will generate. http://cdmage.cjb.net |

Thanks That depends on the layout.bin. The .cue file is meant to just give the burner hints about how to basically lay out the tracks on the Cd if there's more than one or if there's an oddball sector size. If it's a standard ISO type CD, that's not too much of a problem. You can either use a CUE file from another CD that you know to be "normal" and edit the bin filename to match yours (use a text editor). If it's a non-standard disc, and actually needs a .cue file, you're going to need to know how it was originally laid out first, as it's custom made for that particular file. That's assuming layout.bin is a CD image. The BIN extension has also been used for data storage files, and for program component files. Given what you've mentioned about it, I think that's actually the case here. I think it's a proprietary data file involved in installing the chipset drivers. --------------------------------------------- MCheu |

Given what you've mentioned about it, I think that's actually the case here. I think it's a proprietary data file involved in installing the chipset drivers. I'll second that - BIN is a common extension used for any form of binary data, and in this case, it is NOT at all likely to be anything to do with a CD image. Just burn the files as they are - you would rune the setup from the directory you unpacked them to, so unless being read only on a CD or unable to use the current directory as working space upsets things, the same set of files should install from a CD. I forget what, but I've known things that don't install from a copy on CD, for those reasons - the other problem is that files which are transferred from CD may keep the read-only attribute, which may cause any later replacement of them to fail or be queried. On the other hjand, most setups and installs perform further unpacking to TEMP, possibly to get round the problems of being run from a CD, or from a network directory that you do not have write permission on -- I may be dozzzy, but take the ZZZ's out to mail me http://www.junkroom.freeserve.co.uk/jvc2080.htm - 2x2x24 CD-RW troubles If you drop a cactus, don't try to catch it! |
