Default CCL disappointment

Got a bit of kit today from CCL.

The box had a sticker on it which said something like "checked for
quality control". The sticker was placed so that opening the box would
rip it.

I immediately phoned CCL and asked if the box had been opened. I was
told that it had. I asked if the item (a graphics card) could have
been installed in another PC to check it worked. I was told that it
could have been.

I told CCL that that made the item second hand and I did not want it.
Returned it the same day for a full refund.

Be warned.

So how do you think the manufacturers check the card before sending it
out of the factory? Does that checking make the card secondhand?

Personally I wouldn't car in the slightest, what difference does it
make to me if the card has been plugged in to some other computer
before I get it? Apart from anything else it probably reduces my
chance of getting a card which is going to fail prematurely.

Electronics (in general) either works or it doesn't, once past the
first few days/weeks of use it will most likely carry on working for
several years. 'Secondhand' really has no meaning in this context.

Absolutely! I am clearly not the first to have complained.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the
drugs began to take hold. I remember M saying something
like:

I told CCL that that made the item second hand and I did not want it.

Ditto. When buying new I expect it to be undisturbed. Sounds like the
shop sent out a customer return or ex-demo unit. It probably would work
perfectly well for years, but there's no way of knowing and I certainly
wouldn't want to take the risk for the full price.
Opened boxes have a place - the 'B' list, beloved of Dabs.

The label said something like 'has been opened to check contents'. The
box otherwise looked brand new...I did not break the seal to check the
contents as I could have been blamed for any damage*.

The sticker was vague enough for me to phone up and ask directly if
the item could have been put in a PC to be tested; the answer was that
it could have been.

Glad to see I'm not alone in may stance. I got the impression that I
was not the first to phone up with a similar complaint.

*Just like the chip and pin system is not used for security, it is
used to shift blame to the customer from the banks.

The other day during the football match before the second half
started, the players got together in a circle and had a talk.
They were talking about you.

Couldn't be that interesting if they could wait until the second half!
