But who wants to sit wearing uncomfortable goggles for hours? This is one of those
things that may look better on paper than in actual practice for extended periods.
Plus it disables part of your alert system for other things that might happen around
you. Goggle viewing may work better for certain applications such as games, but I'll
keep my monitor for general usage.

Same reason I seldom use two pairs, one of which replaced broken
Grados, of fairly good audio headphones. Although not as a rule
recommended, what I like from them, I EQ- and process-in for decent
speakers cabinets. Good headphones go a long way up against all the
best of very expensive speakers, and it took me a long time to get
situated, comfortable with sale prices on studio reference monitors I
did eventually find. Other than that, I wouldn't, given the choice,
want anything balanced or wrapped around my head.

Same here. They tend to fall off my nose, or worse, one slides
down and blocks the other. One pair is enough.

I've your basic reference - the typically conspicuous 'flat response'
for naturalism among dynamics and frequency, the industry offers among
several medium-high ratings for headphones.

Not exorbitantly priced, as audio mark-ups notoriously are, but
neither especially significant when watchful for a decent sale
discount.

And then I've some very unusually engineered Sony drivers. They're
from many years ago, away down from pro-grade models, and the
headphones since have fallen into pieces;- the actual drivers are
engaging, and I resoldered and mounted them into more stably rigged
headphone encasing, from an offbrand, replacing the drivers with the
Sony's.

Those drivers, for all their obvious budgetary constraints, have a
different emphasis on frequencies and dynamics, a bit livelier in
presence and reviewed reception;- Sony can get away with that: Sony
has more of their premier headphone models in more studio recording
facilities than most.

The Grados, all the way regarded for prosumer, for me, turned into
crap, totally, when one of the drivers irreparably failed. Also
"flatliners", generally for middle of the pack, but with a slight bass
kick. Intended and noted for their comfort level for wearing,
otherwise to be base appeal on WWII aeronautical, or general military
designs employed from the era.

Where it gets utterly stark crazy, is in miniaturisation available
from technology today. The inner-ear cringe chamber fit of highend
and very expensive drivers, say, used by members in exclusive New York
City health clubs. Never mind the $400 monthly gym membership fees.
Whilst privately listening to music -- sweating like a pig from
pulling a 450lb. deadlift off the floor is for the gymrats a block or
two over, a basement so-styled "dungeon", piping-hot with Nine Inch
Nails through ceiling-mounted speakers -- the cost of elite skullcans
is, whatsoever without doubt, inestimably the inconsiderate viewpoint.

Oh and yeah. You can't perform live and subsequently mix onto or over
tracks and dub-ins without headphones or a studio isolation chamber.
I've a mixer unit and did some recordings with headphones/mics. I
only had to borrow a pro-singer/performer's voice;- the computer,
mixer, mic-interface for realtime latency overrides, took care the
rest.

So I take it that you also use only one pair at a time, unless
you are in a gym ? Sounds sensible to me.

I don't headphones at all unless referencing: A-B'ing for cabinet
drivers. The newer inner-ear or channel headphones, I've seen for
$2000US. Although there may be, what technology can now provide, four
or maybe more discrete electrical drivers, miniscule or close enough
for a pinhead, mounted together in clusters for each ear.

Handheld devices and, with some gyms, their own software applications
for aides to the workout, of course also provide privacy for
individual musical content. They're predominately of newer inner-ear
headphone types.

I've my own gym, at least for the time being. There's little if
anything in resistance equipment I cannot duplicate.

What gym policies are, often to an oligarchic intent of individual
owners, the enfranchised gym as I'm familiar, closely relates to
profits -- as often for what is to as little public deviation, as
possible, for non-allowance of all instances of actions resembling
what potential is most arguably offensive and objectionable. Usually,
that point will concur to be precisely at 6PM to 9PM, after most
finish their j-o-b and head in to the coral for some paces around the
hamster wheel.

I dunno, I suppose I may at some point join another gym. Hamsters
being simply so adorable, at least until they hurt themselves;- many
gym memberships are a ticket in the out-door nextdoor to a doctor's
physiotherapy rehabilitation lab. I may have a temporary opening for a
rotor-cuff trauma or impingement specialist, on a case interest basis
for verifying some independent studies.

Of course it's much to do with usage. The most obvious is when
available space does not allow for a huge monitor. Also when
traveling.

I doubt comfort will be a problem. I have some FPV goggles that are
surprisingly lightweight, much lighter than putting a smart phone
inside of a goggle case.

Gaming certainly is a good foreseeable application even when space is
not limited. I used to think dual monitors was cool for gaming, but
keeping stuff on the other monitor is pointless when I want to be
absorbed in the game.

I wouldn't worry about it, it won't be a government mandate anytime
soon...
