SONY DVD Writer DRU-710A has trouble to read CDs
I bought SONY DVD Writer DRU-710A a few months back. It's
been good till now. It has trouble to read music CD with many songs. Normal music CD has maybe 10 to 15 songs. But there are some music CDs that have as many as 18 songs or more. The drive plays maybe the first 15 songs fine, but it jams at maybe the 16 or 17 or 18 songs. My old Lite-On CDR Writer would play these CDs fine. Does anyone know a solution? Maybe a firmware update for SONY DRU-710A? |

Sony released brand new firmware just a few weeks ago so you may want to give it a try. Just make sure you disable DMA on the drive before you run the flash program. Stephen |

In XP go to the device manager and open IDE/ATAPI Controllers. Select the correct one, right click then properties, choose the advanced tab and change the transfer mode from DMA to PIO. You'll find the firmware at Sony's site http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/ The latest version for the 710a is BYX4. Stephen |
