Default MMC 8.1 Installation Problems

I “upgraded” my Windows ME OS, All in Wonder Radeon, MMC 7.0 system to
MMC 8.1 with Direct X 9.0 and Windows Media Encoder 7.1. There are four
problems resulting from the above updating, which I would like to
resolve:

1. The viewing screen is about 10% smaller than before. This is easily
solved with monitor controls, but is an annoyance when switching back
and forth between operating systems (Partition Magic).

2. The viewing screen has a flicker (looks like 60 hz) which cannot be
adjusted. The Display|Settings|Advanced|Adapter box shows “75hz”, but
changing it has no effect. In addition, the
Display|Settings|Advanced|Displays tab shows that the monitor is
operating at 60 hz--which is different from the adapter settings.

3. Before making the changes the AIW properties|Adapter box showed the
driver used was ATI2DRAG.DRV, and this remained afterwards. It seems
strange that the driver wasn’t upgraded on the MMC 8.1 disk I purchased
from ATI.

4. I normally use 1024 x 768 resolution. To see if I could adjust the
refresh rate to something better, I tried changing the resolution to 800
x 600. The machine wouldn’t do it, but started asking for necessary
files. There were a LOT of them. Some I located on my machine, but
others I couldn’t find either in the machine, in the original ATI
installation CD, the Windows ME installation disk or in the new MMC 8.1
installation disk. So I have to stick with 1024 x 768.

It has been suggested that I need to update my drivers, but I can find
only one place on the ATI website where a driver is offered, and I'm not
sure if it is the one or not. If I go to the drivers and software page
there is a "Catalyst Windows 98/ME 3.9 Driver Download" page, it lists
wme-catalyst-7-95-031028m-011774c.exe (or a 3 file version of the same
thing). Should I use that? Is it ok to mix that with MMC 8.1?

Or, maybe it isn't a driver problem at all. Please help.

I have the AIW Radeon w MMC V7.7 and considered upgrading to 8.+. Even
though they say the Radeon is supported, there are so many add-ons that
aren't supported by the Radeon. I decided to stick with 7.7 and the things
you are talking about are why. Good luck.
