Default What matches an old P4?

I built a system about 5 years ago and I'm now thinking of building a
backup to it. It's a P4 3GHZ in an Asus P4P800 VM board with 2G of ram.
I haven't kept up with all the new chips and I'm totally confused. Any
idea on what parts would give at least equivilant performance as this
old P4?

BTW, I was surpised to see that older P4P800 series Asus boards bringing
near $100 on ebay. Would this be a better alternative to building with
new stuff? TIA. Richard
