If you want to delude yourself then feel free.

If I did I would however I think audio cds are bad news and best avoided.
Too much hassel all round.
They are to easy to burn, a 160 gig hard drive will hold what 32,000
songs, so I think I will head that way.

It wll also free up the spare room where I store my CD's.

Good luck with your CD mountain sunshine :O|

And your ancient PC will be able to use a 160gb hd will it? Or will you be
back complaining that doesn't work either?

It will manage 120gb so I will havet to cut down my music collection
to 24,000 songs.
I can store the other 8,000 on CD in the wardrobe if I can find one
big enough and strong enough to hold them.
Also I will be able to locate a song in a few seconds, as opposed
to several hours (or days ) in your case.

By the way your CD mountain is also a serious fire hazard.
So you may end up burninig you house down as well as
your cd's :OD

Incidently your pile of 3,200 CDs will be about 32 meters high
or 32 one meter piles, which will be over 5 meters wide.
(basically we are talking almost an entire wall)

Not quite as portable as my hard drive which I could easilly slip
into my jacket pocket.

Oh and then you are going to need a couple of back up of each,
just to be on the safe side.

50p worth of drive space will store 200 songs and you
won't even get 20 plastic wallets for than.

Happy burning sunshine!!

Oh yea I would just add that you will need a seperate computer if you
want to do anything whilst you are burning your coasters.

"a buffer under run has occured, please buy some more cdrs"

"miraclously this occured even though you PC can supply the
data at over 40 times the rate you are burning so the chances of it
ever happening to *anyone* is ZERO."

"the changes of anything coming from Mars........da da da da d da"

But lets not go into the 'darker areas' of cdr marketing and cd burning.

About time you burners woke up and smelt the slightly burnt coffee.

Some confusion here - you say you an 're-use the discs'. This suggests

they
are RW discs, which are unsuitable for audio as most players will not see
them. You cannot 're-use' CDR discs. Then there's the speed issue. What
drive is this and what media are you using? Old hardware will not be
compatible with current high speed media and trying to write high speed
media even slower is a recipe for failure.

I don't really buy that arguement, when I bought the disks it didn't
say "these disks don't work" or "You will need to spend £500 on a new
computer
to use these disks"
They are CR recordable disks and I have a CD writer, end of story.

Who ever said you have to buy a new computer to use these newer, high
speed CDRs? New CDRW records are cheap (less than $100 US, I paid $45
for my 44X CDRW six months ago). Now, if your computer won't support
that, then yes, get rid of that DINOSAUR.
