overclocking 101
I am new to overclocking. Any advise on making a system faster? What
motherboards and CPU work best? What graphics card works best for overclocking? By best, I mean easiest and most bang for the buck. Can you overclock other parts inside the case (RAM)? Also, what should I look out for when I start overclocking? - JB |

Also, what should I look out for when I start overclocking? - JB Hey JB, I'm no expert on overclocking, but I'll tell you what I know. Motherboard: As far as I can tell, any decent "performance" geared motherboard will have built in overclocking options. This means usually just going into the BIOS (which is done a number of ways, sometimes pressing f4 before the windows load screen, on mine its pressing delete) and opening up your clock settings. If your motherboard has SLI or Crossfire, it most certianly is capable of overclocking. The best thing to do is check your model number and google it. Best thing about the net is someone has had the same question as you, and probably asked it already. CPU: AMD opterons are supposedly the best for overclocking, but their stock speeds are pretty lame. ONLY buy an opteron with the intention of overclocking. All AMD cpus overclock pretty well, from what i understand (ive only overclocked 2, both with varying success.) I don't know much about intel Cpus, maybe someone else can jump in on that. Anyways, thats pretty basic stuff. Google search overclocking, and youll find a ton of links out there. Almost every decent overclocking website has a "how to" section. |
