Question about udma 133?

hi,

I'm after a udma 133 ide cable for a dell 1u rackmount server, and I
can't find them anywhere!

I've found a udma 100 cable. What is it that restricts it to 133? Will
it work at 133? If not will i lose anything noticably? I'm planning on
using software raid so this could be critical!

You found them and didn't even realize it.

Nothing, the same cable is used for ATA66, 100, and 133.

Yes it'll work fine providing it's a normal, decent quality
cable, as one unfit for even regular use at ATA100 wouldn't
work well at ATA133, either. I have to wonder where you
looked as it's quite easy to find an ATA133 cable.

Thanks, but i'm afraid thats missing the key point - It's a rackmount
server and I need cables approximately 2-3 inches long!! i.e. comically
short, and these i can't find anywhere.

All i found was a 40 conductor ata 100 cable on ebay.

Saying that i've now found a 30cm 80 connector cable, so i may try that
just folded out the way carefully.

Your first post said nothing about length!

All i found was a 40 conductor ata 100 cable on ebay.

A 40 conductor cable won't work above ATA33.

Saying that i've now found a 30cm 80 connector cable, so i may try that
just folded out the way carefully.

With a *great deal of care* you can remove the connector from a cable,
cut the cable to whatever length and re-crimp the connector. A standard
ATA spec cable is ~6" between the two drive connectors. You can cut off
the MB connector near the middle connector and use the remaining short
cable, with the drive set to master. You might have to cut the wire to
pin #34 if the system complains that it's not a 80 conductor cable.
