Default Vesa on GeForce 4 MX440

hi,
I'm a newbie - I have a new computer with GeForce 4 MX440 installed. When I
installed Settlers 2 an old game which I think required Vesa VB I get a
blank screen when the game starts to play. The leadup graphics works ok -
that is I can start the game and sellect options and sound configuration.
Everything works great until I start to play the game then I get a blank
screen.
Settlers 4 works great but I would still like to play Settlers 2
I'm on Win XP Prof unfortunately.
Thanks in advace
john
