Default Old Gateway 700XL...will not boot...yellow light on

I have an old Gateway 700XL with a Lexington motherboard and the
original P-4 2.2. Use it for inbound fax and weather station uploading.

It has been running fine until yesterday when it began shutting down by
it self. Removed the case and vacuumed out the dust bunnies.

It then started up and ran fine. It again crashed overnight (after 8
hours) and now on pushing the start button all I get is the Yellow
(supposed to be green) "on" light.

Google is no help.

I have checked all connections have reseated all cards, processor, and
ram. All inside board lights and power supply green lights are on. The
HD will spin and click to a point. CD drives spin, accesses floppy.

Nothing on screen.

All fans are running including processor and Power supply. The green
light on the PS is on. Hitting the PS reset button does not correct issue.

I have checked the battery voltage 3.24 volts. Reset the bios
configuration using the gateway instructions.

Now upon pushing start button after intentional power disconnect. It
starts with the yellow light on. Goes through some drive checks but it
will stop within 45 seconds of startup and just sits. There are no beep
codes. It just sits with the yellow light on.

Anybody have any ideas what this may be.

Thanks in advance.

Bill

Either power supply or motherboard. If you can get a comparable known good P4
power supply for testing, you can isolate the problem. Disconnect all power
from the current power supply to all devices. Connect up test power supply to
motherboard only, and see if it boots to a message asking to to hit F1 or F2. If
it boots up, connect up the other devices. If not, the motherboard has probably
failed.

You do not need to remove the old power supply to test with a replacement. Put
the system on its side and connect the power supply leads.

The Lexington board uses RAMBUS memory. I do not have any Lexington boards at
this time, but I do have other replacement motherboards with a Gateway BIOS,
important if you are running Windows... Ben Myers
