projector kits

Hi:
For all the obvious reasons, I'm interested in projection from my
computer/game consoles via projector. But then, I'm a college student
who can't afford the $1000+++ price tag for a decent projector, and
I'm not interested in a crap projector for $300+++. I've been seeing a
lot of "projection kits" on e-bay lately, and I am wondering if
there's any use in them or not. Has anyone used/seen/researched/built
any of these? If so, could you let me know what you thought or
recommend about them? Thanks!
