Crazy easy fix for stuck BenQ cd/dvd drives.
Hello,
You may not believe it and I may not believe it myself but this actually works. First I tell you shortly where this solution came from... probably me... misinterpreting somebody elses solution or maybe I interpret it correctly. I don't know but the following fix seems to work 100% reliable for my BenQ drive which got stuck... I already tried oiling it by dropping oil on it through the opening... and also tried cleaning it etc... with little luck... probably stupid to try it that way anyway... I also noticed these cords/chains or whatever. I also tried pulling it out today/the tray with sticky tape but didn't really seem to work it might have something to do with it though but for now: But here goes: 1. There is a small little hole in front of the cd/dvd drive. 2. If you put your finger on it or some sticky tape and then press the open button, the tray should shoot out. Why the **** this works I don't know ?! Maybe it's creating some kind of suction/vacuum or it's just enough to make the weak motor overcome the somewhat stronger magnets ?! Anyway already solution was from this site but maybe they/he/it ment another hole lol... so I am have accidently discovered this crazy easy fix ?! Isn't that funny ?! https://www.ifixit.com/Answers/View/...f ully+closed So here is my question to the "experts" out there ?! How the **** is it possible that plugging this little hole at the front of the bay/drive fixes it ?! HUH ?!?!?!?! Example of tiny little hole: https://www.google.nl/search?dcr=0&b...wauG9-NJvBVYM: Right there in the middle. Is this some kind of chinese conspiracy ?!? Drive manufactured to fail to open after some time... and this tiny little hole is there secret to opening ?! Wow... nice internet conspiracy theory ! =D (Also in case picture is too hard to find for you here you go, maybe I make/upload another one later for now here is video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nmmh...c_oL-rTVe&t=0s At 2:04 you can see benq drive and under white logo tiny little hole) Bye, Skybuck. |

Crazy easy fix for stuck BenQ cd/dvd drives.
I just tried again opening the drive with the hole uncovered it takes a bit but seems to work...
Maybe fiddling around with my nails next to the drive bay in between and such might have to do something or perhaps covering this hole did change some kind of vacuum/air/pressure or something. For now I am just gonna leave the sticky tape on. "Weird or What" Bye, Skybuck. |

There is a small little hole in front of the cd/dvd drive. The hole is intended to accept an unrolled paper clip. See, even Jose knows this. http://www.josepino.com/articles/com...-with-clip.jpg If you have a stainless steel paper clip, you can partially unroll it, making a "probe" with a "handle". They should really put one of these in the retail box, as a "hint". http://www.josepino.com/articles/com...pen-cd-dvd.jpg Put the "probe" into the hole, push against the mechanical mechanism in there and the tray will open a bit. Obviously the hole is an "escape mechanism", to be used when the drive does not have any power, but you want to get the media out of the drive. ******* When you install a drive into a computer case, sometimes it's a tight fit, and you distort the computer case or the drive casing or something. This causes the tray to "jam" against the frame, preventing it from opening. Applying pressure to the front (with tape or magnets or something), may release the jam by accident. The front bezel on some drives is removable. The retail box the drive comes in, has a beige and a black bezel, and the user can install the bezel color of their choice. But at the same time, if the bezel is installed crooked, it can jam up the tray. You must use your trained eyeball to spot these issues, in order to have a trouble-free optical drive lifetime. And you absolutely do not splash oil around an optical drive. You must keep everything inside clean clean clean. Not full of oily dirt. Who wants oil smudges on their DVD ? Paul |

It can stretch a bit with use and lose a firm grip on the pulleys, causing drives that have been ejecting with no problem to get balky. I've fixed older drives a few times by replacing the belt. Been a couple of times for one really old Lite-On burner that I keep because it's a champ at reading disks for quality. Larc |

Plextor used to supply them. I still have the one that I kept when I upgaded the dive several years ago and its Plextor replacement did not include one. I guess that they were deemed unneccessary when a bent paperclip could do the job as well, and saved money not supplying them. |
