Geforce4 Ti4800 Question
What's the main difference between the geforce4 Ti4800 & the 4600 besides
price? I tried doing a google search for a review of the 4800 & they didn't have one. Thanks |

news:vz_Oa.19635$N7.2766@sccrnsc03... The 4800 is a 4400 8X AGP part Jim Manning not entirely true ! TI4800SE is a 4400 8x agp (note the SE) TI4800 is the fastest version of geforce4 and almost impossible to find anywhere. TI4600 is faster than a ti4800se and some of the gf5 (5200, 5600) gf5 5800 gets very hot and can make alot of noise gf5 5900 (ultra) if u want the fastest otherwise Ati radeon 9700 pro and 9800 pro, and 9600 pro (if on budget) are actually superperformers and here in denmark a bit cheaper than the nvidia models Lasse |

I was going to buy a Ti4600 & priced them at pricewatch.com & saw the Geforce4 Ti4800 x8 AGP was $205 & the 4800 only $138. Looks like the 4800 would be the better buy. |

The 4800 supports AGP 8X, but this doesn't affect performance. wrong...the ti4800 is clocked higher than the 4600 i dont remember if it supports agp 8x the 4800SE again look i write _SE_ this is just a 4400 with agp8x and is therefore slower than the 4600 the gforce4 series doesnt need agp8x anyway...read all the test they all state the same....agp4x is enought for the geforce4 series....how this holds up with the gf5 series i dunno, but their performance seem really low except for the 5800 (ultra)and 5900 (ultra) if u wanne get a cheap card super fast card ...look for a gf5 5800 ex asus v9900 ...beware of the noice this hairdryer makes :-) Lasse |

They're the same card, but the 4800 has AGP 8X support. The clock-rates are decided by the manufacturer of the card, and are based on the speed of the memory they choose. the 4800SE again look i write _SE_ this is just a 4400 with agp8x and is therefore slower than the 4600 Eh ? TI4800SE is a completely different card to the TI4800 ! TI4800 = TI4600 TI4800SE = TI4400 the gforce4 series doesnt need agp8x anyway...read all the test they all state the same....agp4x is enought for the geforce4 series....how this holds up with the gf5 series i dunno, but their performance seem really low except for the 5800 (ultra)and 5900 (ultra) No cards need AGP 8X - it's not a performance enhancer. |

Thanks The GF4 Ti4800 (without the SE) is a nice card. The one with the SE (Slow Edition) is rather poor and you will find a GF4 Ti4600 is faster than the GF4 Ti4800SE. In short, if you want a GF4, buy the Ti4800 (without the SE) or get a Ti4600. Pete |
