Think I am abandoning Dell. Went to www.resellerratings.com and looked at
reviews for CyberPowerPC, Dell and based on reviews from MaximumPC magizine,
Digital Storm.
So-so ratings on CyberPowerPC
Horrible ratings on Dell
Very Good ratings on Digital Storm and I can get XP!!!

Go for it. Just keep in mind that the ratings comparing a very large vendor
to a small one are meaningless. The big vendors are slammed because their
happy customers never bother. The little ones benefit because their more
hobbyists and more likely to take the time to vote.

Remember any of the thousands of small vendors that were in and out of the
market in the last 10 years? How many are hononring their warranties?

More or less I was going to say the same thing. IMO, Dell makes a
good quality pc and okay or better, quality laptop (depending on
model). Support of course is maybe where Dell is weakest but if you
don't use support, then that may be a non-issue. Most likely if I
would buy again, I'd stay with the biggest names because in my mind,
if the masses are buying them, can they all be wrong? Of course the
OP should buy what is best in their own opinion for themselves.

What about Vision Computers, what was their rating?

Only 1 review (below) which scored a 10/10

Mitul and Vision Computers made the chore of buying a computer painless.
After having a company issued computer for 10 plus years, I was faced with
having to buy one. Mitul did a net conference, viewed my current computer,
and replicated what I had. The process was easy and Mitul was very patient
and informative. I am a customer for life!

So if that one review was 1 out of 10, you wouldn't consider them?

One review?!?!?

If you already have a legal copy of XP, consider getting a Vista PC,
with Premium or Business, and installing XP, assuming you know you can
get the drivers.

A lot of people seem to think "XP is better, so I will get a PC with
XP on it". That's OK if there isn't a copy of XP that can be
installed or if the buyer doesn't know how to do the install.

If you have a copy of XP, and are able to do the XP fresh install,
then get Vista so you can install that later without added cost.

Also, one other major thing. Look at the thread about "Dell Outlet".
i don't know that I will ever buy a "new" computer again with the
deals available at an outlet like Dell's. Take a look and see what
you can get there. Mine came to about $700 less than what i would
have spent for new.

Leaving what you get in the hands of someone else, and not being
informed, is one way of doing things. Knowing what you are getting,
has big advantages. Both are valid, I choose and benefit from the
latter.
