Default KVM Switch

Would someone be able to recommend me a good, affordable kvm switch?

Linksys and Zonet market good, affordable KVM switches.

They're not fancy, and they're not the most beautiful products I've ever
seen, but they work as claimed.

If you're running a Linux-style system the Linksys may be the better choice.

Out of curiosity, why is that? What's the difference?

Under some Linux distributions the X-server seems to have issues with some
KVM switches.

The observed effect is that either the mouse pointer disappears or becomes
erratic when the desired machine is selected.
(My understanding is that this is related to the mouse emulation circuitry
within the KVM switch.)

This is an effect that shows up only in graphics mode under Linux. I've
never seen any indication that console / terminal mode is affected.

In fact, a work-around was to switch to an another terminal session
(CTL-ALT-F3 for example), then operate the KVM switch.
The X session would be reslected (CTL-ALT-F7) when returning to the machine.

This got really old after about seven minutes.

A Linksys four-port switch did not exhibit this behavior; Belkin and a
different brand of six-port did.

Under Windows, DOS, or console systems there should be no difference.
