Default Can I replace my Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-308B

I have an Inspiron 2500 and I want to replace the CD/DVD drive. Is this
do-able? Is it something I can do at home or am I going to have to send it
away? Any ideas what kind of money we're takin? The original drive is a
Samsung CDRW/DVD SN-308B so I suppose I'm goin to have to replace like for
like....or am I wrong?
Thanks in advance

You can fit ant drive you wish without any problem, the problem you will have
is finding a front bezel to fit it which conforms to the outline of your
Dell.

Which laptop drives would be compatible? Are they all the same?

I purchased this model from this vendor for an Inspiron 8100 after my DVD
died after 13 months. It had a Dell stock number and had the bezel. Just had
to take out one screw, and popped in the new unit.

It was a new drive (Mfg date of August 2003--I purchased it September) and
came with Nero software which I didn't need. It arrived three days after I
ordered it.
