attatching autochanger to san with fc/scsi router
Dear All,
I'm trying to get a dell pv120 autoloader operational on my san. I've connected it to a fc/scsi router, (a storagetek 3200 which is a badged crossroads 4100) and from there to my brocade 2800. The switch sees the router as a successfull F port and correctly identifyies it in the name server. (as a crossroads) On the host the qlconfig software that manges the qlogic hbas indiates that the HBA can see a wwn (the autoloader) and two luns (the tape drives themselves presumably) hanging of it. W2K spotted the autochanger and I've installed the dell driver for it. HOWEVER... nothing shows in windows removable storage. It looks to me like the autochanger has been found but not the tape drives? Any ideas please? Cheers! Rich PS I can't connect to the router - any tips on serial/network connections to a crossroads 4100?! |

like the autochanger has been found but not the tape drives? Any ideas please? First you should check if your tape drives are visible from OS: (HKLM/Hardware/Devicemap/SCSI/SCSI Port n) You should find there the Library Controller and the Tape drives. Tapes that have a loaded Tape driver have an entry like DeviceName: REG_SZ: Tape n If you can't find any Library Controller or Tape Drives something must be wrong with your Switch Zoning or Device Mapping in the SCSI/FC Router. This Router can be accessed via serial connection (with a special serial cable which comes with the router itself) of via IP (e.g. Hyperterminal connection to that IP address). Default serial parameters a 9600, 8, N, 1 My recommendation for router settings are Indexed Mode - not automapped scsi-devices René |

René,
Thanks for your reply. I eventually tracked down a copy of the manual for the router and found that the reason that I couldn't connect via the serial connection was that I had to hit the enter key six times....I was stopping after three or four! I reset the device to the default config and it worked fine. The default setting was auto mapping. I subsequently changed to indexed which also was fine. Cheers! R |
